Job Description Make a Difference in the Lives of Young Men My
Friend’s House provides a safe, structured, and caring home for
teenage boys in state custody who have experienced abuse, neglect,
or other difficult life circumstances. Our mission is to help each
young man heal, grow, and develop the skills needed to become a
successful and independent adult. We are seeking a Lead Direct Care
Staff member who will not only provide direct supervision and
mentorship to residents but will also help guide and support the
direct care staff team. This position is ideal for someone who
enjoys mentoring youth while also developing and encouraging other
staff members. Position Summary The Lead Direct Care Staff member
plays a key leadership role within the residential program. This
individual provides direct supervision and mentorship to residents
while also supporting the Executive Director in coordinating the
direct care team. Responsibilities include staff scheduling,
training, communication, and oversight to help ensure that
residents receive consistent care in a safe and structured
environment. This role requires strong leadership, good judgment,
and a commitment to the mission of My Friend’s House. Key
Responsibilities Youth Supervision and Support • Provide direct
supervision and mentorship to residents • Model positive behavior
and healthy boundaries • Encourage responsibility, accountability,
and life skill development • Assist residents with daily routines
including school preparation, chores, personal care, and activities
• Support residents emotionally while maintaining appropriate
structure and expectations Staff Leadership • Assist in scheduling
direct care staff shifts • Help recruit, interview, and onboard new
direct care staff • Train new staff members on program procedures
and expectations • Provide guidance, support, and coaching to
direct care staff • Help maintain positive team communication and
morale Staff Development • Coordinate or assist with staff training
and continued education opportunities • Ensure staff remain
informed about policy updates, procedures, and program expectations
• Encourage staff growth and professional development Program
Operations • Assist with maintaining a safe and structured
residential environment • Ensure policies, procedures, and state
regulations are followed by staff • Help address staffing needs and
coverage when needed Documentation and Communication • Maintain
accurate documentation and program records • Communicate important
updates or concerns to leadership and staff • Participate in
treatment team meetings and staff meetings when requested
Transportation and Activities • Transport residents to school,
appointments, and activities as needed • Participate in
recreational and community activities with residents Crisis
Management • Assist staff in responding to behavioral challenges
using approved de-escalation techniques • Help maintain a calm and
safe environment during difficult situations Qualifications
Required • High school diploma or equivalent • Valid Tennessee
driver’s license • Experience working with teenagers in a group or
residential setting • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and some
holidays Preferred • Experience supervising staff or leading a team
• Background in social services, psychology, education, youth
ministry, or a related field • Experience working with youth who
have experienced trauma or behavioral challenges Ideal Candidate

Friend’s House is a residential program operating 24 hours a day, 7
days a week. Staff schedules may vary and flexibility is required
