Principal Duties andResponsibilities 1.* Performs basic monitoring functions withcomponent central monitoring station including, but not limited to: a. admitting and discharging from theCentral Monitor and assigning arrhythmia monitoring, if needed, b. adjusting alarm limits at the RN'sdirection, validating alarms, changing paced status, and turning alarms on/off, c. printing strip recordings at intervalsper routine orders, printing strip recordings of alarms, and assuring that anychanges in conduction, rhythm, or rate requiring immediate attention arereviewed by an RN. Mounting routine andalarm records for review by nursing staff, and posting of reviewed strip sheetsto the appropriate patient chart (CICU) or unit (PCU or telemetry) daily, d. troubleshooting monitor problems andcontacting Bio Med for repairs as appropriate, e. pages appropriate floor to notifynursing staff of need for assessment of patient arrythmia, no signal, lowbattery, etc. 2.* Assembles new patient charts, maintainscurrent patient charts, and breaks down patient charts on dismissal. Posts appropriate reports to patientchart. Keeps charts supplied withadequate Doctor's Order Sheets. Thinscharts as needed and makes copies of necessary chart information for out ofhospital transfers of patients. 3.* Monitors patient charts for new ordersand notifies nursing personnel of orders requiring immediate attention. Scans, faxesand transcribes physician orders per hospital policy. Through computer order entry, and othercommunication as needed, notifies department or staff and schedules orderedtests, procedures, consults, dietary needs, equipment repairs, etc. 4.* Performs receptionist and secretarialsupport for unit. Greets and directsunit visitors, clergy, and other health care personnel to assigned rooms. Utilizes telephone and paging systems. Answers patient call system. Relays calls, messages, and patient requeststo the appropriate people. Clericalduties include posting charges, ordering supplies, filing, and printingforms. Generates and maintains workorders to Plant Operations and Maintenance. 5.* Cleans and maintains specializedequipment (e.g., tele boxes, monitor cables and modules) as directed by theUnit Manager or designee. Restocks CICUrooms and/or designated areas. 6.* Answers call lights to determine patientneeds, responds to patient requests, and/or relays to RN responsible forpatient's care. Transfers patients,beds, and patient care equipment to other rooms while adhering to safetyrequirements. 7.* Transports dismissed patients frompatient room to vehicle, making appropriate stops (e.g., dismissal desk forarrangement of payment) according to dismissal procedures. Transports patients from Admissions andEmergency area to patient room, as appropriate. 8. Provides assistance in unit activitiessuch as meal tray checking and passing as necessary. * Essentialfunctions Minimum Knowledge, Skills andAbilities Required 1. Ability to read and write English,comprehend and communicate complicated verbal and written instructions, basicarithmetic skills for supply ordering and heart rate calculation at a levelnormally acquired through completion of high school. 2. Approximately one to three monthson-the-job experience to learn heart rhythms, operation of the central stationmonitors, order transcription and computer order entry, and become familiarwith unit routines. 3. Interpersonal skills necessary to gatherand exchange factual information with physicians, patients, visitors, clergyand other health care personnel in a courteous manner. 4. Analytical skills in order torecognize, interpret, and report life threatening changes on the centralmonitors and to solve simple malfunctions of the central monitors. Also, analytical skills necessary to organizework, gather, collate and interpret data related to patient transport ortransfer. 5. Ability to concentrate and pay closeattention for up to 80% work time when monitoring central station, entering andtranscribing orders, answering the telephone, and talking with physicians andstaff.

• Ability to be on feet and walk up to 80% of work timewhen not at monitoring station; ability to push and/or pull 200 pounds, andlift up to 50 pounds for up to 10% of work time when position patients, movingequipment and so forth.
