Summary Communicate procedures to patients, gather necessary
documentation, and monitor as well as record the study. Utilize the
international 10-20 System for electrode placement, set up
polysomnography equipment, calibrate oximeters, and prepare
ancillary devices. Implement and monitor Continuous Positive Airway
Pressure (CPAP) or Bi-Level Positive Airway Pressure (BiPAP)
devices. Conduct reviews of polysomnograms, which is a crucial
aspect of the role. Evaluate clinical competencies related to
procedures, equipment, and documentation. Qualifications Education
A high school diploma or equivalent is required, along with
registration by the national board of polysomnography technologists
or certification as a sleep disorder specialist from the national
board of respiratory care. Licensure and Certification Basic
Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification is necessary, along with
ongoing education in sleep diagnostics as mandated by state
regulations or accrediting bodies, and registration as a
polysomnography technologist (RPSGT) by the board of
polysomnography technologists.
