Job Description:
Job Description Summary /n /n Provides direct patient care to
pediatric through geriatric patient populations. Assesses, plans,
implements and evaluates the care of patients undergoing endoscopic
procedures. Communicates with physicians and/or anesthesia
providers continuously and as needed about patient condition.
Assists with procedures. Assists with maintaining equipment and
inventory. Participates in performance improvement and CQI
activities /n/n /n/t - Coordinates and supervises patient care.
/n/t - Demonstrates ability to perform head-to-toe preprocedure
assessment on all patients and reassesses intraprocedure and post
procedure as needed. This includes pediatric, geriatric and the
general patient population. /n/t - Ability to adequately assess and
reassess pain. Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques.
Educates the patient and family regarding pain management. /n/t -
Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that
optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of
medical/health care errors. /n/t - Ability to perform waived
testing (point-of-care testing) per Clinical Laboratorys and the
patient care units policies and procedures. /n/t - Ability to
interpret results of waived tests; take appropriate action on
waived tests results. /n/t - Electronic documentation meets current
standards and policies. /n/t - Demonstrates ability to formulate an
individualized plan of care as indicated and evaluates for
effectiveness. /n/t - Demonstrates an ability to assist physicians
in performing procedures in the Endoscopy Department. /n/t -
Demonstrates knowledge of medications and IV fluids and their
correct administration based on age of the patient and patients
clinical condition. /n/t - Follows the five (5) medication rights
and reduces the potential for medication errors. /n/t - Formulates
a teaching plan based on identified patient learning needs and
evaluates effectiveness of learning; family is included in teaching
as appropriate, from pre-op to discharge. /n/t - Provides patient
with explanation and verbal reassurance consistently. /n/t -
Identifies physical symptoms and changes and takes appropriate
action in a timely manner. /n/t - Ensures Pre-op Checklist is
complete (HP present, informed consent signed, test results
present, surgical site identified, etc.) before the endoscopy
procedure begins. /n/t - Demonstrates knowledge in all areas of
care specific to the Endoscopy Department /n/t - Demonstrates
knowledge of cardiac monitoring and can identify dysrhythmias. /n/t
- Makes decisions reflecting knowledge of facts, knowledge of
diseases/conditions, care required and good judgment. /n/t - Treats
patients and their families with respect and dignity. Practices
good guest relations. /n/t - Identifies and addresses psychosocial
needs of patient and family. /n/t - Communicates appropriately with
nurse manager, charge RN, coworkers and physicians. /n/t - Consults
other departments, as needed and as appropriate, to provide for an
interdisciplinary approach to the patients needs. /n/t -
Demonstrates ability to be flexible, organized and function under
stressful situations. Utilizes initiative, strives to maintain a
steady level of productivity; self starter, compatible and
supportive; a team player. /n/t - Manages and operates equipment
safely and correctly. /n/t - Meets current documentation standards
and policies and completes within the shift. /n/t - Carries out
medical and surgical asepsis during treatments and special
procedures. /n/t - Maintains an environment that provides the
patient and family with feelings of safety and security. /n/t -
Assists with orienting new staff members to the department. /n/t -
Maintains a good working relationship and effective communication
both within the department and with other departments for the
benefit of the patient. /n /n/n /n/n Education/Experience: /n/n
/n/t - Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. BSN or current
enrollement in a BSN program preferred. /n/t - Current Registered
Nurse licensure in the State of Nebraska. /n/t - Current BLS
Certification. /n/t - Current ACLS Certification. /n/t - Two (2)
years of experience in nursing preferred. /n/t - At least one (1)
year of experience in endoscopy preferred. /n /n/n
