Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Stepdown Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12 Hours Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Candidates must not be full-time, part-time, or PRN with any affiliated facilities. Description: Department: Stepdown Nurse-Patient Ratios: 1:4-5 Unit contains 33 beds. Common diagnoses include young adults through geriatrics, sepsis, STEMI, CHF, chest pain, COVID, stroke, renal failure, COPD, DKA, and patients with complex medical issues, including multisystem failure. RNs are required to titrate drips. Common titratable or set rate drips include Heparin, Amiodarone, Cardizem, Nitroglycerin, IV antibiotics, and Insulin. The Charge Nurse is present on each shift and takes an assignment. Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) are available with a ratio of 1:10. Availability of CNAs fluctuates based on unit census. Respiratory therapy equipment includes BiPAP, Airvo. RNs are required to read and interpret their own telemetry strips. Tele monitors are available. Shifts are scheduled from 0630-1900 and 1830-0700. Unit schedulers will create traveler schedules. Weekend requirements involve working every other weekend. Holiday requirements occur as needed to meet unit demands. Floating requirements allow RNs to float to MedSurg, Inpatient Rehabilitation, or Skilled Care. Scrub color is navy blue for RNs. The unit experiences busy patient flow, admitting and discharging within the same six-hour timeframe while also completing shift changes. Successful nurses on this unit will possess a strong sense of teamwork, a friendly and positive attitude, and a commitment to positive patient experiences through bedside reporting and hourly rounding. RTO must be provided upfront, with limitations on additional requests. Cancellation policy allows for up to four shifts to be canceled during the assignment. The charting system used is EPIC. A BSN is required for submission. This position operates within an acute care setting.
