Join us and together well create healthier, stronger communities.Under close supervision and according to established procedures, performs routine basic nursing procedures necessary to provide for care, comfort and safety of patients. Takes vital signs, assists patients with personal hygiene, feeds and ambulates patients, transfers patients and so forth according to detailed procedures.Responsibilities

  • Provides for care, comfort and safety of assigned patients under close direction of registered nurse. In doing so, positions patients, assists with cleansing of patient, oral hygiene, ambulation, and making of beds
  • Performs and records basic nursing care procedures such as collection of routine specimens, vital signs, intake and output, foley care, and weights in accordance to detailed procedures.
  • Completes EKGs on any patient that MD orders, communicates the EKG print out to the MD, transmits the EKG to the McKesson portal, and then assigns EKG to be read by appropriate MD.
  • Cleanses all wounds and applies dressing appropriately as directed by provider and nursing personnel.
  • Applies ace wraps, splints, slings, and immobilizers to patients affected extremity.
  • Observes patients and reports reactions or changes in condition to appropriate nursing personnel.
  • Answers call lights to determine patient needs, responds to patient requests, and/or relays to RN or LPN responsible for patient's care. Transfers patients, beds and patient care equipment to other rooms, adhering to safety precautions.
  • Completes various errands as requested such as retrieving and delivering supplies, pharmaceuticals, x-rays, specimens, instruments, test results, and so forth. Accepts medication deliveries and distributes to secure designated areas on the unit.
  • Ensures cleanliness of patient rooms and department by daily cleaning of the over bed table, bedside table, cleans instruments as needed, and strips patient cart at time of dismissal and wipes it down. Periodically cleans refrigerator, nurses station, storage/supply areas, carts, and wheelchairs.
  • Cleans rooms between patients including wiping down all equipment in room, stretcher, and counter tops.
  • Cleans telemetry lead 3-4 times per shift
  • Transports dismissed patients from patient room to vehicle, making appropriate stops according to dismissal procedure.
  • Transports patients from Admissions and Emergency area to patient room as appropriate. Applies Telemetry to patient for transport as appropriate per guidelines.
  • Provides for nutritional needs of patients by preparing patient and tray appropriately, feeding patients and/or assisting as necessary.
  • Stocks patient care areas with linen and supplies from Clean Hold and the linen closet. Helps with the ordering of supplies.
  • Utilizes the phone system, paging system, call light system, computer system, pneumatic tube system, photocopier, and fax machine to provide clerical support. Monitors performance of the listed systems and other unit resources and reports related needs for repairs or supplies to the Clinical Manager.
  • Performs order entry functions by entering physicians' orders in the computer, and/or scheduling diagnostic tests, therapies, physician appointments etc., with the appropriate departments or offices. Notifies nursing personnel of orders requiring immediate attention and assures that orders have been noted and reviewed by the Registered Nurse.QualificationsEducation:-NoneLicenses & Certifications:-State of Nebraska Certified Nursing Assistant certification required. Additional unit-specific knowledge is obtained through orientation, checklists and competency testing.-Currently on the 40-hour Medication Aide Registry for the State of Nebraska (only as related to administration of oxygen) or obtain training, complete competency and be registered on the 40-hour Medication Aide Registry within 1 year of hireKnowledge, Skills & Abilities:-Interpersonal skills necessary in order to exchange factual information with patients, visitors, and nursing personnel in a courteous manner, and to allay apprehensions of patients and visitors.-Ability to concentrate and pay attention to detail for up to 30% of work time when performing basic patient care tasks.-Analytical skills necessary in order to organize work, gather and interpret routine data regarding patient assessments, transports, and to maintain routine records.Equal OpportunityCommonSpirit Health is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer committed toa diverse and inclusive workforce.
